Brooklyn is preparing to honor the late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm as her 100th birthday approaches on November 30. The tribute includes a one-woman show titled "Unbossed & Unbowed," created by Ingrid Griffith, who was inspired by Chisholm's extraordinary life and her own Guyanese heritage. Griffith's performance is designed to educate audiences about Chisholm's pioneering role in politics and her lasting impact on future generations of women leaders. The League of Women Voters of New York City and the Brooklyn alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. are supporting the show, highlighting Chisholm's dedication to civic engagement and empowerment.

Karen Wharton, from the League of Women Voters, emphasized the importance of voting, reflecting Chisholm's philosophy of "kicking down doors" for future leaders. Additionally, a monument honoring Chisholm will be unveiled in Prospect Park next year, which will greet visitors and serve as a reminder of her contributions. Morgan Monaco, president of the Prospect Park Alliance, expressed her excitement about celebrating Chisholm's legacy and ensuring that people see themselves in public spaces. The performance of "Unbossed & Unbowed" is free and aims to inspire the community to engage in voting and civic participation.
