Bonney Lake-Sumner Housing Action Plan
The cities of Bonney Lake and Sumner are collaborating on a Housing Action Plan (HAP) funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to address critical housing issues in the region. The plan includes a Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) designed to evaluate the current housing landscape, including available housing types, affordability levels, and alignment with community goals. The HAP aims to develop strategies that prevent the displacement of low-income residents while promoting an increase in the variety and availability of housing options. Community input is actively sought as part of this collaborative effort, emphasizing the importance of resident feedback in shaping housing solutions. Although this process will not lead to immediate changes in comprehensive plan policies or regulations, it lays the groundwork for future actions that both cities can consider implementing.
Key strategies will be outlined in the HAP, including a schedule for implementing recommendations. The project is time-sensitive, with a completion deadline set for June 30, 2021, underscoring the urgency of addressing housing needs. This initiative reflects a commitment to better housing solutions and seeks to ensure that all residents have a place in their community.
