City Receives 32 Million in Federal Funding for Reed Market Road Railroad Crossing Project
The City of Bend has received a landmark $32 million in federal funding for the Reed Market Road Railroad Crossing Project, the largest grant in the city's history. This initiative aims to eliminate the delays caused by frequent train crossings, which can halt traffic for over 20 minutes. By enhancing travel time reliability and safety, the project addresses critical transportation challenges in the rapidly growing southeast Bend area. Mayor Melanie Kebler praised the funding, emphasizing its role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from idling vehicles and improving emergency service access. The project utilizes local General Obligation Bond funds approved by voters in 2020, effectively maximizing taxpayer investment.
Currently in the design phase, construction is anticipated to begin in 2027 and continue through 2028. Through this strategic investment, the City of Bend is committed to developing a transportation infrastructure that meets the needs of its expanding population. The Reed Market Road Railroad Crossing Project represents a significant step toward a more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation system.
