Explosion of road construction coming soon to Bend
Bend is on the brink of a substantial increase in road construction due to a $190 million transportation bond approved by voters four years ago. This funding supports nearly 30 projects intended to improve travel safety and alleviate congestion in the city. As these projects advance, residents should prepare for a surge in road closures, detours, and traffic-related disruptions over the next three years, peaking until 2028. Ryan Oster, the city's lead engineer, highlighted the importance of community understanding as the city undergoes necessary infrastructure improvements despite the inconvenience of "construction fatigue. " So far, much of the bond’s budget has been allocated to planning and public outreach, with several projects slated for construction bids in the coming months.
Oster reassured residents that the growth of Bend cannot be halted, and infrastructure developments are essential for accommodating this growth. The anticipated construction is expected to compound with ongoing utility work and street preservation projects. Ultimately, this initiative represents a crucial step in ensuring that Bend's transportation system can keep pace with its rapid expansion.
