Fire in Deschutes River Woods engulfs fifth wheel trailer
A significant fire incident occurred in Deschutes River Woods on January 16, 2025, where a fifth-wheel travel trailer was engulfed in flames, resulting in approximately $50,000 in damages. The fire at 19024 Riverwoods Drive was reported at 9:36 a. m. by multiple callers and involved not just the trailer but also surrounding items, including a wooden dog house. A quick-thinking neighbor successfully rescued the dog from the property, ensuring its safety amidst the chaos.
Fire officials later determined that the cause of the fire was a heat lamp placed inside the dog house that was inadequately distanced from combustible materials. Although the trailer, a 2016 Crossroads Redwood model, was a total loss, thankfully, no injuries were reported. In light of this incident, Bend Fire & Rescue has advised the public to exercise caution with heat lamps, ensuring they are compatible and securely positioned to prevent accidental tipping. The event underscores the importance of fire safety in residential areas, particularly during colder months when heat lamps are commonly used. Residents are encouraged to follow safety recommendations to protect their homes and pets from similar fire hazards.
