City Receives 32 Million in Federal Funding for Reed Market Road Railroad Crossing Project
The City of Bend has achieved a remarkable feat by receiving $32 million in federal funding for the Reed Market Road Railroad Crossing Project, marking the largest grant awarded to the city to date. This funding aims to eliminate the need for vehicles to stop at train crossings, which have been known to cause delays of over 20 minutes. By leveraging local Transportation General Obligation (GO) Bond funds, the city is maximizing the benefits of this federal support to improve its transportation infrastructure. Mayor Melanie Kebler highlighted the project's potential to enhance safety, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve emergency service access. The Reed Market Road is a crucial east-west arterial route in southeast Bend, and this project aligns with the city's goals for operational efficiency and improved quality of life.
Currently in the design phase, construction is slated to begin in 2027 and continue through 2028. The project reflects Bend's commitment to sustainable growth and the enhancement of its transportation network. For more details, residents can visit the city's dedicated project webpage.
