Deming Library receives solar panel grant Cascadia Daily News

Bellingham, WALocal News

The Deming Library has been awarded an $82,470 grant from Washington's Clean Energy Fund to install solar panels, a project that promises to cut energy costs significantly. The Friends of the Deming Library, a local nonprofit, spearheaded the grant application process, reflecting the community's commitment to sustainability and resourcefulness. Installation by Ecotech Solar is scheduled to commence on March 4, with the library anticipating annual savings of around $5,000. These savings will be reinvested into community programs that specifically benefit the Nooksack Tribe, such as a Tribal Elders Book Club and workshops on indigenous traditions. The library, a crucial social hub in the rural area, aims to enhance its offerings through these funds.

Although some may question solar energy's effectiveness in the often-overcast Pacific Northwest, Ecotech Solar assures that the region's long summer days make it a feasible option. Furthermore, a community event on March 28 will delve into energy topics, providing residents with valuable insights into rising utility rates and new energy incentives. This initiative not only supports local culture but also fosters a stronger sense of community.
