Winter weather suspends garbage collection in Seattle, Bellevue

Bellevue, WALocal News

Severe winter weather has disrupted residential garbage, recycling, and food/yard waste collection in Seattle and parts of Bellevue on Thursday, prompting officials to take immediate action. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) announced the suspension of services due to hazardous road conditions, advising residents to keep their waste carts indoors. Affected residents will be permitted to set out double the usual amount of waste during their next scheduled collection day at no extra charge. Similarly, Republic Services, the waste management provider for Bellevue, confirmed that pickups are suspended in areas such as Northeast Bellevue, Crossroads, and Lake Hills. The inclement weather has also caused significant travel disruptions, with several school districts announcing closures and delays, alongside numerous flight cancellations at Sea-Tac Airport.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is actively working to plow and de-ice major roads, although steep and residential streets remain treacherous. For the most current updates, residents can check SPU's At Your Service blog and follow them on social media platforms. The local community is encouraged to stay informed as conditions evolve.
