Advocacy in Action The BDA Supports a Demonstration Bikeway and Free-floating Bike Share

Bellevue, WALocal News

The Bellevue Downtown Association (BDA) has officially supported a demonstration bikeway along 108th Ave NE and the implementation of free-floating bike share programs, following a recommendation from their Transportation Commission. Due to time constraints, the Commission postponed the hearing on the bike share program to January 25, while the City Council is slated to review these recommendations on February 5. This initiative is part of Bellevue's commitment to enhancing bike infrastructure in response to a transportation levy approved by voters in 2016, which allocated $1. 7 million toward mobility projects. The BDA's Transportation Committee engaged in discussions and analyses over several months to craft these recommendations.

If approved, the BDA will actively seek member feedback during the trial periods for both the bikeway and bike share programs. The city aims to gather data on bike usage and assess the feasibility of these initiatives through this demonstration approach. Ultimately, the BDA and city officials hope to refine or remove the programs based on collected data and community input. The overarching goal is to promote safer and more efficient mobility options in Downtown Bellevue.
