City of Bellevue Welcomes New Fire Chief

Bellevue, WALocal News

The City of Bellevue has welcomed Jerome "Jay" Hagen as the new Chief of the Bellevue Fire Department, effective May 14, 2018. This announcement was made by Bellevue City Manager Brad Miyake on April 30, 2018, highlighting Hagen's rich background in firefighting and leadership. With over 33 years of experience, including his current role as the deputy chief of the Seattle Fire Department, Hagen is well-equipped to tackle the challenges of Bellevue's fire and emergency services. He started his career in 1986 at the Missoula City Fire Department in Montana before moving to Seattle in 1988, where he rose through the ranks. Hagen has a keen understanding of local dynamics, having lived in the area for over two decades.

He expressed excitement about leading a respected department in a community where his children were educated. This appointment fills the gap left by interim chief Todd Dickerboom, who served following the retirement of Chief Mark Risen in September 2017. Hagen aims to build strong partnerships within the community and the fire department as he embarks on this significant new chapter.
