In a successful collaboration with 300 Trees and Amazon, the City of Bellevue recently gave away over 700 free trees during its annual event, emphasizing the importance of tree equity in urban environments. This initiative, which has distributed more than 3,200 trees since its launch, aims to enhance the city's tree canopy, crucial for improving air quality and reducing urban heat. Bellevue reached its goal of 40% tree canopy coverage but acknowledges ongoing disparities that need addressing. By utilizing Tree Equity Scores, the city strategically places trees where they can offer the most benefit. Additionally, participants in this year's giveaway received not only trees but also watering bags and mulch to ensure successful planting.

The selection of tree species is based on availability and the suitability for Bellevue's climate. Community members are encouraged to apply for next year's giveaway, with applications reopening in June. This program not only fosters community involvement but also contributes to a healthier urban ecosystem.
