Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and BR Police Department Launch Project ChildSafe Baton Rouge
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has unveiled Project ChildSafe Baton Rouge in collaboration with the Baton Rouge Police Department, aiming to bolster community safety through the distribution of free gun locks. The initiative is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, running from 9 a. m. to noon at various BRPD precincts and community centers. This proactive strategy is not only a response to rising concerns about gun violence but also an effort to promote responsible gun ownership among residents.
By ensuring that firearms are secured, the program seeks to prevent accidental shootings and unauthorized access to guns, particularly by children. Community engagement plays a pivotal role in this initiative, as local leaders emphasize the importance of safety education alongside the distribution of these locks. The project reflects a broader commitment to enhancing public safety and addressing the challenges posed by gun-related incidents in Baton Rouge. Residents are encouraged to participate and take home a gun lock to secure their firearms properly. Through this initiative, Baton Rouge aims to set a benchmark for community-driven safety measures.
