In a tragic incident at Apalachee High School, 14-year-old Colt Gray has been charged in a shooting that left two students and two teachers dead, along with nine additional victims hospitalized. Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith has confirmed that Colt will face further charges, while his father, Colin Gray, faces serious allegations for allegedly allowing his son access to the firearm used in the incident. Colin has been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. During their court appearance, Colin was visibly emotional, and both father and son are set to undergo preliminary hearings on December 4, 2024. A grand jury will meet on October 17, 2024, to assess potential additional charges.
Colt's attorney did not request bond, as the maximum penalty for his charges is life in prison. Due to Colt’s age, the death penalty is not an option in this case. Both defendants will soon have alternate legal representation appointed.
