Georgia Man Charged with Stealing Over 2,400 Gallons of Gasoline
In Monroe County, Georgia, a man named Lionel Jones has been charged with the theft of 2,446 gallons of gasoline from a local gas station. The theft, which occurred between January 19 and 20, was reported to the police, prompting an investigation that utilized advanced surveillance technology. Deputies identified a gray SUV and a U-Haul truck seen near the station during the crime. On January 23, they located the U-Haul and conducted a traffic stop, where they noticed a distinct odor of gasoline emanating from the vehicle. Upon searching the truck, deputies discovered two 250-gallon plastic tanks that were nearly empty, providing further evidence of the theft.
Jones was arrested and is facing charges that include theft by taking and possession of marijuana. He is currently being held without bond at the Monroe County Jail. This incident highlights ongoing issues related to fuel theft and the effectiveness of surveillance technology in law enforcement.
